We would like to invite you to the 12th Geosymposium of Young Researchers “Silesia 2019”. The Conference will be held from 2nd to 4th September 2019 in Tarnowskie Góry, Upper Silesia, Poland.

Geosymposium is an international conference devoted to young scientists, PhD students and young doctors interested in Earth sciences. The conference has interdisciplinary character, thanks to which it provides an excellent platform for the presentation of research results in the field of geology, geophysics, geography and environmental protection. It is organized each autumn by Faculty of Earth Sciences of the University of Silesia in Katowice.

In this year we are planning to perform following sessions:

► Structural Geology
► Petrology, Mineralogy and Geochemistry
► Paleontology
► Hydrogeology
► Near Surface Geophysics
► Petroleum Geophysics
► Physical Geography, Landscape Ecology
► GIS, Remote Sensing and Cartography
► Polar Studies ⟡ Environmental Protection

Registration fee is 120 EUR – the fee includes:

► conference materials,
► accommodation in a hotel (2nd/3th September, 3th/4th September),
► full board (2 x breakfasts, 3 x lunches and 2 x dinners),
► coffee breaks,
► field trip (Historic Silver Mine, Black Trout Adit and Open Air Steam Engine Museum in Tarnowskie Góry)

The conference language is English (PowerPoint slides in oral presentations and posters should be written in English). Please take into account the forms of presentation: only 1 oral presentation and max 2 posters are possible.

Travel from Katowice by public transport

Unfortunately there is no direct public transport from the city centre of Katowice to the venue – you can get there only with a transfer in Tarnowskie Góry.

Take the bus no. 820 from the „Katowice Piotra Skargi” bus stop. Get off at the „Tarnowskie Góry Dworzec” bus station (the final stop) and transfer to the bus no. 142. Get off the bus at the „Tarnowskie Góry Castorama” bus stop. The venue is located ten minutes’ walk from there.

The ticket price is 4.80 PLN (90-minutes normal ticket). Reduced tickets are available only for Polish student ID card holders.

Travel from the Katowice-Pyrzowice airport

            You have two options:

  1. Take the bus AP2 or AP3 from the „Pyrzowice Port Lotniczy” bus stop (it’s located in front of the terminal C) to the „Katowice Dworzec” bus station. Get off at the final station and walk to the „Katowice Piotra Skargi” bus stop. Then follow the instruction „Travel from Katowice by public transport”.
  2. Take the bus AP1 from the „Pyrzowice Port Lotniczy” bus stop to the „Karb” bus stop. Transfer to the bus no. 135. Get off the bus at the „Tarnowskie Góry Gliwicka” bus stop. Walk to the venue about 10 minutes.

Travelling by buses AP1, AP2, AP3 you should use the 24-hour ticket. It costs 14 PLN. The schedule is available here:
